Snacks that are really treats in your pantry that you say are for your kids, but you meant to buy them for yourself, lol!
A partner who orders in or has take-out everyday at 12am?
Snack vending machine in the office that keeps talking to you to "buy me".
The treats that your coworkers bring everyday to the table buffet?
Too busy, no time, can't cook?
Self rewards through fast food and treats galore
etc...
Sounds like you could use improvements in:
Balance
Boundaries
Making intentional and mindful choices
... that align with your health goals.
Some ways to overcome the bullets mentioned above are:
Avoid replacing meals with snacks and consider sprinkling them in your meals so you don't feel deprived.
Put yourself to sleep earlier so you're not waiting hours to get your second wind and worked up an appetite right before bed
Bring your own snacks that contain nutrients so the snack machine has less control over you mentally and physically
If this is about showing "love" through food, how generous a gesture to contribute to the buffet table but to who's expense at the end of the day(s), week(s), months, years - YOURS. Therefore, make sure to pack a meal and healthy treat(s) with you so you're less tempted to head to the office buffet table.
Prioritize where you put energy, don't forget about yourself since you're the only one who could take care of you and lastly, you don't need to know how to cook to eat well but it does help if you know how to.
You should feel rewarded every time you eat which is part of a healthy self-care regimen. However, rewarding with unhealthy foods creates behaviors that become habit for many reasons. In the end, if the aftermath comes with consequences, then consider re-approaching your reward system. Perhaps, taking a break, a vacation, movie tickets, finding alone time, sleeping in, etc can be as fulfilling and possibly what you needed all along.
We enjoy working with difficult situations and re-approaching challenges. Here's one, avoid looking at the scale since it's always letting you down from personal and professional experience. We threw out our scale a long time ago! Focus on what you can do. When you start adding up all the do's vs. don'ts you'll find all your health parameters moving in the right direction. In the end, finding health means much more than a number on the scale. You can do this and so much more!
