My Mom shared a Chinese proverb that states:
“Make a big problem small,
make a small problem little,
and then make a little problem disappear”.
She shared this invaluable proverb with me because I was having an issue, actually lots of issues, in my early adult years. She knew she couldn’t solve my problems, I’m sure she knew that no one could, but she always found a way to provide life learning lessons such as this one to help pave my way and make life a little easier.
In honor of Mother’s day/month… always, we’d like to provide some suggestions to simplify your health for the most common concerns/habits we hear in practice so you too can make big problems disappear in your food world and ultimately make life a little easier.
“I hear carbs are evil so I avoid it”. “I'm not able to control myself when I’m around pasta, bread, cake.”
Explore, challenge, process to understand the importance of carbohydrates. Then you may discover that carbohydrates are a matter of finding quality and quantity not good or evil.
“When I watch movies/shows I munch on something”.
Avoid doing both simultaneously otherwise you’ll miss out on possibly an orgasmic experience!
“I don’t eat breakfast… maybe even lunch then I’m ravenous for lunch, dinner, midnight”.
Sounds like we need to work on adding meal(s) so you don’t turn into the Cookie monster!
“I eat my kids leftovers to finish the plate”.
If you’re not enjoying this activity then work on either plating smaller meals for your kids and/or save leftovers for later
“I have no time to exercise and in fact, I hate it”.
You may have to carve out time and note when, in the day, your energy is at its best. To the latter point, finding something you enjoy, walking perhaps can help transform the hate in this activity to blessings…
“I’ve worked hard all day so I’m tired when I get home”.
Note your patterns so you can understand when you’re most able to self-care.
I get different diet information from different doctors, I don't know what to do”.
Partner with someone, wink, to help interpret, support and guide your health journey.
I don’t like the way I look but I don’t have any motivation to work on anything”.
Only when you put effort into YOUR self care is when you break from this negative cycle.
Maybe it’s the change of season, the sameness of the everyday grind that’s causing you to feel stuck, external factors that aren’t serving you anymore and/or the internal signals that know it’s time to get to work and find a different approach this time. If you’re tired of the life-long food struggles or the recent short-term food behavior issues, we’re happy to educate and counsel you on evidence-based/ simple strategies that we know works and lasts.
We provide small onsite group sessions, on-line course support and 1:1 telehealth customized care and accept many common insurances. Let us know which works best for you so you’re not wasting any more time figuring out how to self-care. It’s a time to heal, make amends, accept/let-go and finally take responsibility/accountability for your actions because you deserve peace of mind. We’re happy to impart all that we’ve learned and the blessings along the way.
