This may be a daunting/overwhelming concept if you’re starting from scratch. There are definitely other barriers that might have you skip this step altogether if you have:
No time
Can’t cook and minimally able to
No support
Bombarded by life’s distractions
Don’t know what to shop for
Don’t have foods that you need
Etc…
Ouch, sounds like meal planning is impossible and always feels like life’s distractions are working against you, grrr!
If you’re interested in saving some time during your busy week to prevent you from ordering in/eating out too often that may be contributing to adverse symptoms, here are simple steps to make meal planning possible.
Food shop for a variety of ingredients you’ll need on hand to prepare and/or cook
Protein
Starch
Vegetable
Fruit
Prepare and/or marinate to optionally cook/bake, on your days off preferably
Package meals
Working on “cruise control” is a lot easier over time with the above steps than figuring things out on the fly when you’re most likely hungrier, stressed and tired. The latter typically leads to mindless food/fuel decisions thereby seeking rewards in unhealthy options as your cravings are off the chart from a hard day's work.
If you need simple and aren’t too savvy in the kitchen perhaps sandwich-type meals are your best options outside of healthy frozen foods. Otherwise if you’re feeling boujee, meal delivery services and/or an at home chef offers more luxurious meal planning selections.
We are huge fans of working on autopilot with these strategies since the demands of the day never end. When life gets tough, these strategies become our lifeline to stay afloat so we’re not just maintaining but thriving while we’re being tested through life’s challenges!
If you’re still in break mode during these slow summer months, get good at these strategies so they become familiar before the September rush starts and self-care is practically non-existent. We are here for you at Nutrition Custom Care if you need a coach or someone you can fall back on for support. We offer online courses for independent learners, group sessions and/or individual consultations to meet your needs.
